Rather quickly in hip-hop's trajectory, the culture emerged as a trans-local and international force. This was, in-part, due to a conscious effort by early hip-hop pioneers to spread the traditions to various parts of the world. The StoryMap linked explores a part of this story. This work contributes to the wealth of scholarship that explores the role some figures of US hip-hop had in ensuring the cultures place as a "globally" important music tradition and how cultural mediators build networks of Black cultural transmission. This is an ongoing project and I look forward to discussion with and contributions from others as we continue to build an understanding of hip-hop as diaspora.
